Getting ripped off with FlexSeal "rubber spray paint."

Bookmark and Share

It is rubber spray paint and I purchased it to give it a try. The TV commercials showed someone promising that FlexSeal will help seal any cracks, breaks or anything especially in rain gutters to prevent water leakage.

I purchased two cans. Click here to read my story.  But I learned that for $39.98, thw two cans are a rip-off. Don't buy Flex Seal.

Why?

It's not that the product doesn't work. It does work. But, the manufacturers are greedy. It's about money, not service. They give you a large spray can but it is only filled with 10 ounces of spray. I'm not even sure if it is really 10 ounces. It's probably less. Each can will barely cover 12 inches of a standard rain gutter before it runs out of spray.

Seriously. Flex Seal is that cheap. I sprayed the seal on one gutter bend where I had a small drip leak. Inside and on the corner. The can emptied out in seconds. Seconds! For $19 a can.

It's a serious rip-off. Don't buy it.

They offer you two cans, but you have to pay the handling and processing fee for the second can which they say is Free. But the cost of the processing and handling is equal to the cost of one, useless can of Flex Seal.

Then, they call you and try to sign you up for $100 in coupons that are worthless, which requires a subscription cost of $39 a month. You can say NO but they will sign you up anyway.

It's a scam. Don't waste your money. I waste my money to help you save yours.

These people are serious scammers. The product is not worth it. They don't lie, but they mislead.

Click here to view their web site.

The spray works. But they don't give you enough to do a good job. To fix a rain gutter with lots of problems, you would have to buy $3,990 worth of the Flex Seal. For that price, get yourself new rain gutters.

  2. Your feed back is greatly appreciated. I was concerned about size, price and after market squeezing and it looks like the buyer gets all 3.

    Great post.

  3. Sorry to hear that the manufacturers are greedy. But once it does come on the market it would be a lower price, AND NO S/H charges. So at least it is good to know that is al least seals.
You could always purchase it and return IF it doesn't cover what it should! Everyone knows how far a can of spray paint will cover, this should be less product needed ;since it is a rubber sealant, and black.
    (Made sense to me)

  4. Thanks. I was ready to order some but, luckily, I came across your blog. I think I'll try the stuff at Home Depot first. At least if I have a complaint I can take it back.

  6. I purchased this product on line, once I selected the advertised special, 1 can for $19.95 and get 1 can free just pay shipping, it automatically sends you to a screen offering buy 1 "jumbo can" and get one free just pay shipping. I decided to move forward thinking I will end up using the extra amount. Well, once you get to the checkout your charged around $50 product and shipping.

I received the product today and opened the box and saw the cans looked normal size not jumbo. So, I ready through the product info that was sent with the shipment. A regular can is listed at 16 oz. and jumbo can 20 oz.. The cans I received were 14 oz. I called customer service ( in India) and explained the issue and the customer service person tried to say that the qty. is based on net amounts. Even at that it didn't make sense. I asked for an additional can of the 14 oz, to get close to the 40 oz I thought I was purchasing. They wouldn't do that but would credit my account with $9 to compensate for the discrepancy. All I wanted was the correct amount and asked to speak to a supervisor, she basically stated the same thing, they would not sent out another can but would credit my account. I haven't tried the product yet, but given what I have seen so far, I'm not putting much faith in the product.

  15. I had the same experience anonymous had, i tried to move forward in the site without purchasing anything additional so that i could determine the shipping and handling charges, by the time I got to see these charges i had evidently ordered additional products and the final bill was over $80!! Then there was a notice thanking me for the order, I never got the opportunity to approve the final amount. I immediately contacted these "cooks" Rrrr... Supposedly they will refund my account,we'll see!

  16. from reading other pages on flex seal before you get a refund you have to call them multiple times and eventually threaten them or something and people havent been all that pleased with it although they have been pretty pleased with the bedliner idk what it is or where it is sold so dont ask me haha but yeah from what i have seen it hasn't been very popular

  17. if comments are to be made you have to be using the product properly. spray extremely light coats ,make the can stretch!!take your time with light long even strokes and flex seal works like a charm and if it is not worth it you are not repairing things with enough profit i use it on the job and i repair industrial cooling towers, chillers and air handlers.

  24. Honestly, I haven't tried the product. The only reason I was looking at it is that I saw it at Wal-Mart and was thinking of somethings at home that could effctively be sealed. By the way a can of this stuff at Wal-Mart is $12.88 before tax. As for the person that meantioned using a bedliner product like that used in truck beds; good idea and effective. Myself I work for Napa (and no I am not making a sales pitch) At Napa there are two products if you want an aerosol form. One is a bedliner liner product from Dupli-Color. The second is an aerosol form of Plasti-Dip. Personally, I'd go with the bedliner product from Dupli-Color it is a solid black. The Plasti-Dip aerosol only comes in red and yellow as I know.

  25. You can use underbody coating, for fixing cracks in just about anything, its alot cheaper. I have been using it for many years, it comes in a spray can.

  26. The previous comments indicate the TV product may be a scam because you can't see how many ounces you are buying in a can. Also they promise you 2 cans for $19.95, but then overcharge on the shipping. Buyer beware!

  27. Home depot has their own version for $5 a can

  28. I always watch the advertisement and wonder to myself, does it really work. I then watch the way he walks through the screen door from inside out on that boat but when he throws it down onto the watcher there is already a repair to the screen where he stuck his foot through. regardless of what is claimed it ovbiously is not that strong and regardless of how good the seal is on the mess and the door because it is not a solid surface it should bulge upwards with the weight of the water below, maybe not much but it should not lay completely flat and solid as it shows in the advert. On top of that, they do say it is flexible and would flex. Can you imagine also the impact to the surface would be. Think about when you have accidentally body flopped into a swimming pool, now imagine that impact as shown yet no deformation of the screen.

This makes me suspect that this is actually two screen doors fixed to either side.

Think about the thickness of a standard screen door as shown, it is not a special design, yet it extends an inch out from each side and was flush with the very furthest extremity on the bottom but again, was also flush with the very uppermost point but both sides had a framing of at least an inch or more each side.

Does that make you think Ahhh two doors and solid boat hull.

I do give a sign of relief when I considered purchasing it for repairs to now feel better using a $5 tube of silicone sealer and did all the repairs and from all the videoed tests that people have done when I finally thought about searching I am so glad that I didn't jump the gun like I did with the horrible self closing bug screen curtain that doesn't close properly but that's another story. Anyway my leaks were all fixed for a fraction of the price and they remain sealed without the use of flexseal.

Thank you to all those that did try it and have documented the misleading advertising.

  29. I WENT TO HOME DEPOT ASKING FOR A CAN OF FLEX SEAL. I WAS DIRECTED TO A RUSTOLEUM CAN DISPLAY, ASSURING ME THAT IT WOULD STOP MY WATER LEAK. IT COST ME $9.50 PLUS TAX. IF IT DID NOT WORK, I COULD RETURN IT TO HOME DEPOT FOR A REFUND. --- IT W O R K E D !!! --
IT ALSO WORKED ON A SMALL DRIP ON MY CONCRETE BASEMENT WALL WHEN WE HAD AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF RAIN.

  30. Parker seals are exceptionally effective in making the seal highly efficient. The quality of the seal plays a pivotal role and the manufacturers must take extra care while choosing the raw materials and production techniques.

  31. I also tried ordering the one on tv - and somehow my buy-1-get-1-free order turned into $75 with 2 extra cans. When i called to cancel the extra cans (that I didn't need) - they tried everything to get me to keep them. Then, after receiving my 2 puny cans in the mail - I started receiving telemarketer calls from their company trying to sign me up for monthly fees for something?!?!? That company is crazy & is running itself into the ground with these shady marketing practices.

I found this alternative new product the other day called Chemco's SuperFlex. It comes in a 16 ounce can & only requires 1 coat (not 2-3) like the as seen on tv version. It can be purchased at cleanerchemical.com/superflex. The people there are super-friendly and are not pushy sales people like i had with my other experience. The cans came in 3 days (not 3 weeks!) and the product is actually better quality.

  32. I used this stuff called Boom Mat spray. It is for sound deadening in cars to get rid of vibrations. But I used it on gutters and it sealed everything right up. I had water getting in the trunk of my car to and sprayed it in the seams in there also and no more water. The good thing it the Boom Mat stuff is only like 10 or 11 dollars. and it is I think 18oz. Can was full when I got it. Might be worth a try for that kind of cash.

  34. I need to seal my RV roof transition strip from rubberized roof top to fiberglass front. I was looking at purchasing flex seal locally for 12.99 but I wont do that now. Thanks for all the good info. I will try the rubberized undercoating at the auto parts store.

  37. I purchased 2 cans of Flex Seal Clear at Walmart in the 14oz. size to seal around the windows on my RV. They say on their Commercial that is works good to seal around the windows and shows a person spraying it on.
Well they don't say that it comes out of the can like a garden hose. A quick spray around the windows and you have tons of seal dripping all over the place. It dripped down the front of the glass, window frame and I had an over-spray of 4 inches on the siding above the window. I made a fast sweep with the can so it wasn't held in one place that long. I moved the nozzle closer to prevent the wide spray and it just ran down more.
It might be good if you want to fill in a screen on the bottom of your boat but I don't recommend it for RV's.

  38. Flex seal is a big rip-off. They advertise the product for 19.95 but the actual cost is 39.95 for an untrustworthy product. If you have a major project, you better figure on 10 + cans at 200 dollars. Good luck trying to get it to do what they advertise. RIP-OFF
